Main Research Directions

The main research directions of the Key Laboratory are: high-precision stratigraphy, the origin and evolution of early life, significant biological events and ecosystem evolution, and the comprehensive stratigraphy of Petroleum resources.

High-Precision Stratigraphy: Conduct comprehensive stratigraphy research, establish a high-precision comprehensive stratigraphic framework in China, improve the "International Chronostratigraphic Chart", develop high-precision isotope dating abilities, and enhance the precision of stratigraphic division and comparison.

Origin and Evolution of Early Life: Strengthen research on the origin and evolution of early life on Earth, and cultivate research on "astrobiology".

Significant Biological Events and Ecosystem Evolution: Conduct research on major radiation and extinction events in Phanerozoic life, the origin and evolution of terrestrial ecosystems, and the diversity of life and ecosystem evolution during critical geological periods.

Comprehensive Stratigraphy of Petroleum Resources: Using high-precision stratigraphy and high-precision paleogeography research as the main tools, carry out a new research paradigm driven by multidisciplinary integration and big data, and accurately predict and reconstruct the spatiotemporal distribution of Petroleum resources.
